15 Amazing digital in-store marketing ideas

I have compiled a list of amazing ideas I have seen this last year or two that I believe will play some part (big or small) in the shaping the future of shopper marketing. Majority of them are focused around the in-store environment and they range from the whacky to some ideas that are already working and in our stores today.

1) Philips navigation via lighting in store. This is extremely clever technology that helps to navigate the customer around the store using the light fixtures

2) Digital coat hangers. In Brazil a retailer is showing how much customers like their clothes.

This is more the principle than the technology but a great way of seeing what people like and what is in fashion. Also a great way of integrating in-store and digital channels. You can see in real time how many likes there are on each product – displayed on the hangers. Impressive!

– it’s in Portuguese but you get the idea.

3) Kate spade 24 hour actual window shopping

Always open 24/7 because you can shop from the window and get it delivered anywhere in New York within the hour!

4) Amazon Prime Air – drone delivery straight to your door. Another example of making it more convenient for the customer.

Maybe not quite there yet but drone delivery seems to be talked about lot and no doubt will become a reality in the future.

5) Ebay now – delivery within an hour! Self-explanatory, see video below.

6) Apple checkouts – these are already in use in stores today so video not really needed. However the convenience and the personal touch of asking someone in store is unrivalled at the moment. I also expect Apple Pay to be a thing of the future, the ease of payment is incredible, check it out.

7) Taking customer recommendations to a new level a Danish company is using crowdsourcing to pick the right products.

10) Macy’s – iBeacon in store offers. Tesco have also done bits and pieces with iBeacons, both these, geo-fencing and other proximity based tech will be important for the future. We can then help customers at the right point in the customer journey.

11) A Loja Vazia (The empty shop) – A clever visual idea where donations are brought to a store which slowly populate the store with product.

12) Bringing people together and peer to peer networking by personal likes will be key. Companies like über (for cab sharing), feastly (bringing cooks and eaters together) and even Rover (helping bring dog sitters together) are already looking in this space.

13) Not only can we 3d print food now we can also 3D print a house! As the technology gets faster and cheaper it will have a huge impact.

14) Nouveaux Ateliers – 3d suit body scan for a suit. Another example of great personalisation.

15) Glashion – Using google glass you can download an app – when you look at a product and want to buy it you can be taken straight to the page! Even cooler are these Samsung contact lenses which are like Google Glass – but in your eye!
